Richmond, VA. 1999. A new beer brand began to appear on the tap handles and bottles of the city's watering holes. A locally-made brew dedicated to celebrating hard work. WORK Beer invited the thirsty masses to reward themselves for any job well done with its golden nectar. The motto, "You earned it," became the rally cry of beer lovers across the Richmond. From downtown business people hitting up happy hour, to punk rockers filling up their growlers at the brewery, WORK Beer was their staple.

And now, after taking a few years off, WORK Beer is back with the WORK Collaboration Brew. Todd Usry (Breckenridge Brewery in Denver, CO) and Hunter Smith (Champion Brewery in Charltottesville, VA) put their heads together to craft a beautifully full-flavored Dunkel Weiss brewed with Galaxy Hops. We're only producing 10 kegs of this deliciousness, available at 7 locations in Richmond and Charlottesville starting on 3/22/13. So taste it while you can.

It wasn't long before WORK Beer spread across the Mid-Atlantic region, becoming the best-selling beer of its parent brewery within a year of its launch. But when the microbrew bubble burst in 2003, this brewery was unfortunately one of the casualties, and WORK Beer went looking for a new home. After exploring a number of potential brewery partnerships, the folks at WORK realized exactly what they needed to do.

The new WORK Beer is about celebrating the people who constantly bust their asses to create new and delicious beers from scratch: Homebrewers and Craft brewers. These industrious facilitators of fermentation masterfully craft their beers more for the satisfaction of putting smiles on the faces of their fans, than for any other reason.

For the craft brewers: WORK Beer is linking up small brewpub owners with more established craft breweries. These recipe collaborations will give the established brewery an opportunity to stay in touch with its roots, while providing the small brewpub owners greater exposure for their beer-making prowess. The first of these WORK Beer collaborations is launching on March 22nd, 2013, and will be a collaboration between Colorado's award-winning Breckenridge Brewery and the newly-minted Champion Brewing Company in Charlottesville, VA. It will initially be limited to 10 kegs and available in only a handful of bars in Richmond and Charlottesville.

For the homebrewers: It's time they got more recognition for their efforts. It's time for someone to step up and innovate the way people can appreciate and share great homebrewed beer. WORK Beer is doing just that. Through our newly developed Fermentation Society and our web-based "SpeakEasy" feedback platform, homebrewers will soon have an easy way to collect feedback and gain exposure about their beers. It's a system that will let their hard work - and their beer - speak for itself.

At the moment, the day job of the folks at WORK is running a nationally recognized branding agency. But at some point in the not-too-distant future, they want to add "brewery owners" to their titles. A place where they could showcase the know-how of great unsung brewers in Virginia. WORK is currently in talks to do just that. Because they love great beer. And they love the fact that making great beer requires such care and precision. It is a labor of love. And WORK wants to add more love to that labor.
